My name is Mac Winkler, and I am a 5’9”, 210 pound Running Back. I have unusual speed for my size, and have taken first place at many sprinting events in Track & Field my freshman and Junior years on the Varsity track team. I am also an All-American wrestler, which has helped me to become a better athlete, and, being an individual sport, has helped me learn to push myself harder than I thought possible. I am currently going into my Senior year, and am the starting Running Back on our Varsity team. My Freshman year, I was able to play on the Freshman, JV and Varsity football teams at our school. I have been influenced by many things in my life to join football. At a very young age, I was always playing catch with my dad and loved being outside and active. I’ve learned, both in sports and in academics, to have a great work ethic and that both sports and academics are equally important. Learning all aspects of sports, doing research to become a better athlete, and applying yourself to whatever it is you are doing at the moment is just another aspect of intellectual knowledge. Academics and sports are both about researching, learning, applying and analyzing. I am extremely focused and work very hard on whatever task it is I’m doing-whether it is sports, or academics. I plan to continue my education and hope these characteristics will help me in obtaining a Business degree in Economics. I’ve learned that you can push yourself further than you ever believed you could. Through wrestling and Crossfit, I’ve found that your biggest obstacle is in your own mind-you have to push past what you thought you might be capable of in order to reach your fullest potential. Wrestling as an individual has helped me learn to push myself and break through those mental barriers. Through Crossfit, I have come to love weightlifting. I am dedicated to the weightlifting programs through our football program, as well as on my own through Crossfit. I’d like to believe that one of my strongest characteristics is that of integrity. It’s what you do when you think no one is watching. It’s showing up to weightlift at 5:30 in the morning every day before school starts, even though it’s so early no one is going to recognize the extra effort you’re putting in. But YOU know, and you realize that it will show in your athletic performance. It’s doing the right thing for the team, even though no one is going to recognize your own personal sacrifices. It’s the satisfaction that comes from being the best that YOU know you can be, and not having to seek recognition from others.
