Derrick Mayes is a perfect example of how valuable a college education can be when your athletic career is over. Derrick had the opportunity to play college football at Notre Dame under legendary coach Lou Holtz where he became the school’s All-time Leading Receiver. After graduating with a B.S. in Film and Television, Derrick was drafted into the NFL by the Green Bay Packers where he was part of a Super Bowl (XXXI) winning team in his first season and spent six years in the league playing for the Packers and Seattle Seahawks. Since his retirement, Derrick has experienced a great deal of success in both business and charitable endeavors.
Mayes is the CEO and Director of ExecutiveAction Sports and Entertainment where he has worked in all aspects of film and television, from on-camera as a host and commentator, to behind the camera as a director and producer. In addition to his Entertainment Company, Derrick has funded several business initiatives including an internet website and a real estate development group that owns property throughout the country. Giving back has always been critical to Derrick’s mission in life and he has raised several million dollars through various fundraising and sponsorship efforts including a scholarship fund supported by Notre Dame Alums called Lou’s Lads Foundation and Camo Kids which donates athletic event tickets to children of active Military who are called away to duty.
Derrick’s message about the importance of education falls right in line with NCSA’s mission and he is excited about sharing his story and experience with thousands of student-athletes and teaching them how athletics can impact their lives.
