NCSA caught up with rising baseball star Dayton Alexander about his high school career and the opportunity to compete at the next level.
NCSA: What motivates you before a big game?
Alexander: Upbeat fast moving "PUMP" music.
NCSA: What are you looking forward to if and when you get the opportunity to play at the collegiate level?
Alexander: I am looking forward to playing with people all over the United States and to see and show that I can compete with anyone.
NCSA: Why did you get involved in baseball?
Alexander: Well, when I was born my dad had played ball. As a little kid I would stay at the park watching my dad and other adults play baseball. It's a sport that I grew up around and learned to love.
NCSA: Tell us about your interactions with college coaches so far.
Alexander: As of now I have talked to several coaches. I have had contact with them through e-mail and on the phone.
NCSA: How does your team look for this season?
Alexander: My High School team placed third last year in the Maui Interscholastic League (MIL). Because our team was eliminated from the State tournament this year, this gives me more motivation to work harder so that I can help get our team there next year.
NCSA: What are your goals athletically, academically and in your community for the rest of the school year?
Alexander: My athletic goal is to get a scholarship to play college baseball. In the classroom I want to study pharmacy. And last for my community I am currently working on a project to help out the homeless here in Hawai'i and to help decrease our homeless population.
NCSA: Tell us about what you've learned since being with NCSA.
Alexander: I have learned that there are not a lot of scholarships out there for baseball. You need to work hard and try your best to get your name out.
