Personal Statement
I grew up in a basketball home, my father played college basketball, his uncles played college basketball before him, so basketball became my passion very quickly as well. Hard work, training, competing, and leaving it all out on the court have become my hallmarks. It earned me the name “Wolf” since the 5th grade for my predatory behavior on both sides of the ball. As a freshman I broke the school record for most steals in a game (11), my shooting is probably my greatest attribute, but I’m a pass-first point guard so I pride myself on being crafty and getting my teammates the ball where they want it.
I lead by example and I am known to be a very coach-able player. I am always an encourager on the court even when my teammates make a mistake I let them know it’s alright and to keep going. My father has always taught me that a positive attitude and the ability to have fun on the court is the key to realizing my true potential, along with “don’t argue with refs”, “don’t celebrate your makes”, “don’t react to your misses”, “give it your best until the buzzer rings”, “let the chips fall where they may”, and “never quit”.
Above all, I give thanks to God, he is the sole reason I am here and able to play the game I love so much. I know basketball is a door to many other opportunities and I am very passionate about helping others and giving back to the community. I was raised in some of the poorest neighborhoods in Phoenix, and to see God’s hand helping and protecting us all these years only makes me want to work that much harder to do as much as I can for others that are where I once was.
