Personal Statement
Step Into The Winners’ Circle
This is what I’ve always heard growing up. The winners' circle encompasses the space where preparation, dedication, tenacity, perseverance, hard work and opportunity meet. It is the place filled with pride of accomplishment, camaraderie, adrenaline, sweat, determination and goals reached.
To become a successful student athlete is a tall order well worth the effort. To do so is to be part of a tradition of success and pride, both in the classroom and on the court. It means becoming part of an extended network that will go beyond graduation and will always be part of my life. This I look forward to.
I’ve played lots of different sports growing up and have recently developed a passion for basketball. My size and natural athleticism have afforded me the opportunity to quickly learn and excel at playing the game and to earn a starting position on the varsity team. I am predominately a post player with demonstrated ability to rebound and capitalize on second opportunities. My mid range jumper and transition game are effective. I bring lots of energy to the game.
Because I am 6’5”, it is likely that I will transition to a guard position. I know the position and can take defenders off the dribble; I have a fairly accurate three point shot. I am coachable and can easily transition to where my skills are most needed on the court. My desire to win pushes me past my limits from tip-off until the final buzzer.
My goal is to become a marine biologist. I’ve always enjoyed the outdoors and uncovering the mysteries of the ocean. There is a lot more life under the sea than there is on land. Science looks at how natural defenses in marine animals can improve life for humans. I want to be a part of the discoveries. I’ve done well in science and biology in high school; this is a natural career choice.
