Personal Statement
Basketball is a sport that requires focus, heart, and determination, and strives to maximize your physical ability by testing your mental capacity. Everyday presents a new struggle to beat yesterday's maximum output, and issue of just mind over matter. Through the broken ankles, pain from jammed fingers, and strained quads, I play basketball because at the age of five, I knew it was what God had planned for me. I don't play basketball to get girls or even to get popular, but i play basketball because its the only thing that allows me to show who i am. People have told me I would never amount to nothing, then again, I've been proving them wrong my whole life.
So while the world slept, I, Dominique Jones- the 6 foot 4 inch Black & White kid from Kansas City, Missouri- was awake and working hard to achieve my goals. There's a old saying in Kansas City, Missouri, and it goes a liitle something like this: "People may always doubt what you say, but they will always believe in what you do." So when everybody is asleep, i will be working . When everybody is walking down the court, I'll be running. And when there are 3 seconds left on the clock and it's all tied up, I will take the shot knowing that each and everyday I've already taken it.
Having been to three different high schools its been a hard road to travel on, exspecially when your trying to accomplish your dreams. Right now I'm getting ready for graduation on June 10, 2011, and still haven't got my college picked out. So i'm currently working out and staying on top of my grades, if i keep this up i hope more oppurtunities will come my way, and then it's up to me to capitalize on these oppurtunities.
