Hi my name is Asher Arvinger, I was born on May 26, 1994 in New York City. I have a great family and I love sharing time with my mom and dad. I attend University Preparatory, located in Victorville, California where I am a returning senior on my varsity team . My favorite subjects in school are English and Physical Education. When I'm not working on my game I enjoy reading books such as the Harry Potter series, hanging out with friends, going to the movies or watching my favorite TV show SportsNation. I have been playing basketball for fourteen years and my favorite player is Earvin "Magic" Johnson, because he was fundamentally sound yet flashy at the same time. Magic, I believe is one of the great players of all time. I watch highlights of the plays "Magic" made that made me interested in the game. Another one of my favorite players is Allen Iverson. I grew up watching his electrifying plays, and for me, Allen Iverson changed the way I saw the game of basketball. It made me realize that even if you're not the tallest person on the court, if you go out, play and give it 100% then you can succeed. I have accomplished many things in my fourteen years of basketball such as my sportsmanship award, 3 recreation league MVP's, leader in assists and steals in a season, and Defensive Player of the Year Award (2008-2009). I started on varsity as a freshmen and sophomore averaging 13.5 points per game, 7.7 assist per game, and 4.0 steals per game at University Preparatory in Victorville, California. My Junior year was by far my best athletic year. I led my team in scoring(17.5), assists(4.0), steals(3.3) and blocks(3.2) along with winning league and team MVP. I helped lead my team to our first playoff appearance in school history. Through all of the success I remain humble and stay focused on my goals of getting a basketball scholarship and becoming a hall of fame player in the NBA. I also stay focused on my goals in school doing my homework every day, studying for test, and being the best student possible in the classroom. I admire every single player in the NBA, but the two players I admire the most are John Wall and Derrick Rose, because of their stunning athleticism, speed, agility, and play making ability. Through all the ups and downs of my basketball career I understand that basketball is a team game and all the individual achievements means nothing unless you win with a team, one of my favorite basketball commercials are the Adidas commercials because of how they emphasize team work. I am also a hard worker on the court. I have been to many camps such as UCLA basketball camp to improve on my game, I believe in hard work and will do whatever coaches and instructors ask of me to improve my game and help the team. I'm often called a gym rat by my teammates and coach because I spend two to three hours working on my game every day and ask my parents to pick me up from practices a half hour after they end just to get up shots and free throws. It is my dream to play in college and then in the NBA. I believe with hardwork and dedication to different aspects of my game that my dream is possible. My intended major is either Sports Broadcasting or Communuications. I'm still deciding on which one. One of my dreams is to play at a Division 1 college and be a contributer as a freshmen. I also understand that not every player is D1 material, however I am totally willing to accept a Division 2 or Division 3 scholarship and working extremely hard to attain my goals.
