I am excited to go to college and have goals and aspirations for both my athletic and academic experiences. Athletically, I would like to go to a fundamentally sound basketball program that will allow me to continue to grow as a player, and give me the opportunity for playing time. Academically, my interests are diverse. My favorite class thus far has been AP Environmental Science, but I’m also interested in a business degree. On the creative side, I enjoy both photography and cinematography.
Athletically, I am fast for my size and have good agility and quickness. In addition, I expect to grow some more. My father is 6’3” and my mother is 6’0”. My wingspan is three inches greater than my height. That combined with my volleyball experience has given me an advantage in defense, blocking, and rebounding. For the past two years, I have been working with a personal coach, Aaron Nauta, to perfect my three point shot and ball handling. I have grown exponentially in both skills and confidence, going from not getting any playing time as a freshman, to making the varsity team as a junior.
My character has been challenged during my high school basketball experience. As I mentioned, I grew in skill and confidence to become a leader of the Frosh-Soph team when I was a sophomore. When I made varsity this year, the team was very senior heavy, and I had to learn how to be patient, and be a team player who encouraged the play of those with whom I was competing for playing time. I have proven my ability to put the team first regardless of whether I was leading as a starter, or coming off the bench. My close friendships with all my teammates, including those with whom I competed for playing time is a testament to that. It is those relationships that are the biggest daily reward to me for the amount of time that I invest in this sport.
