Personal Statement
I am a senior at Salinas High School and my goal is to participate in a collegiate basketball program while obtaining a quality education. For as long as I can remember, basketball has been my favorite sport. In 2008, I attended a camp held by my favorite player, Baron Davis. His competitive spirit on the court, and approachable personality off of it, helped shape my attitude into what it is today. My intensity only grew from there and I never stopped working to make my game better with a personal shot coach, extra time at the local YMCA after practice, and countless hours on my backyard hoop. I have always been willing to put the extra time in to improve my skills and pride myself on being a good teammate. This work ethic allowed me to be the only junior to start on my varsity team last year and earned me the captain spot this year.
My intensity carries over into the classroom as I have maintained straight A’s since the sixth grade. I am taking college prep classes and am currently enrolled in four Advanced Placement courses. I enjoy the challenge and believe these classes will advance my education and prepare me for what lies ahead. I have always excelled in mathematics and would like to utilize these skills to pursue a career in finance.
Not only has my intensity grown through basketball, but I have also discovered that I possess leadership skills and am able to fail and learn from my mistakes. I possess a competitiveness that motivates me to continue working to be a better basketball player and teammate.
