Personal Statement
I am Korey Rosier, born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida. My personal values are centered around my faith in God, family, education and basketball, in that very order. These values have heavily influenced who I am and continue to mold me as I mature in life. Faith in God’s plans for my future and having the support of my parents has motivated me to strive for my personal best in all my endeavors. My parents have helped to cultivate my personal characteristics of honesty, maturity and self-motivation. I have always had an interest in science and have excelled in science and math throughout middle school and the beginning of my high school years. By continuing to take honors classes such as honors earth science and honors algebra 2, I will be well prepared to pursue my interests in forensic science when I attend college. As the current parliamentarian in my school’s chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, I am refining my leadership skills while playing an active role in shaping my daily environment.
I exhibit these same leadership skills as the starting point guard for my AAU, middle school and high school junior varsity basketball teams. I take time to talk with my coaches, study plays, learn responsibilities of each position, and read offenses and defenses so that I can better lead my team to victory. With experience in high stakes championship games, I am very calm and capable when playing under pressure. Being a leader means not only stepping up where needed on the court, but also serving as a positive example off the court and during the off season. It takes personal discipline and practice to be the best, and that is exactly what I am striving to be. While others may spend their spare time playing video games, I use that time to practice the sport I loved since I was seven years old. Because of that hard work I can use both my right and left hand equally, which makes me elusive to even the most worthy opponents. My high basketball IQ helps me quickly pinpoint my opponents vulnerabilities so that I can hold them defensively, or find a clear opening for me or my teammates to score offensively. Although I have well refined three-point and mid-range shots, I am quick to drive in when I spot an opening. I add value to every team I am on, and I look forward to playing with a coach and college that will help me to reach my full potential as a player and as a scholar.
