Personal Statement

My goals as a student athlete are to become the most educated, well rounded, respectful young man who can get as much of my education paid for by playing the game of basketball. I love the game of basketball and it has taught me many important life lessons that you can’t get just anywhere. I want to be able to get an education somewhere that is a good fit for me and have success in basketball to get me through college and to get myself a job that pays well and interests me. I want to support my parents through their later years for the enormous amounts of hard work, money, and dedication they put into me.

  • Strengths: -Finishes plays. Didn't shy away from contact at the basket. -Shot prep is consistent and results were good. Has range to well outside college 3. -Can get to the rim off the dribble going right. Also showed good pull-up especially going R. -Showed the ability to score it at all 3 levels - rim, mid-range, 3. -Loved his court vision - saw plays happening ahead of time. Was able to continually put pressure on defense because of this. Areas for Improvement: -Continue to develop LH. Improved confidence in left hand will make Koi more versatile and tougher to defend. -Embrace the opportunity to be a lockdown defender. Good feet, great enthusiasm for playing. Take it as a challenge to be best defender on team. -Continue to develop strength in the weight room.

  • Koi Jackson, of Olathe (KS) Olathe North HS, is a 5'8 140lb 2020 prospect from our Spring 2018 KC camp. College coaches on camp staff identified Koi as having scholarship potential. Koi has a great wingspan that gives the player the potential to be a lock down defender and can be even more effective with active hands/feet. Additionally, the prospect appears to have solid size for position and should use their size to be a pesky defender. The talented passer, distributes the ball well seeing thefloor and anticipating when and where teammates will be open creating easy buckets. In terms of ball handling, it was one of the strongest aspects of the player's game. The player makes great use of change of speed and change of direction. Basketball IQ was one of the player's greatest strengths routinely making the right play at the right time. There was a great emphasis on making the right play, which will be a big advantage in recruiting and separating from others. A big part of IQ is shot selection. Koi does an excellent job of shooting the basketball with rhythm and possesses high-level knowledge between good/bad shots. This advantage will continue to develop by watching how this is done at various college levels. Making the extra pass and taking only open in-rhythm shots proved to be a very reliable asset for the prospect. The prospect was able to consistently knock down shots during camp showing to be a reliable asset. Shooting will continue to develop with form shooting and made game speed repetitions. We recommend making at least 500 game speed shots a day off the screen(curl/fades), off the bounce, spot shooting, etc. The talent impressed finishing around the rim through contact and in traffic. With continued work finishing through traffic with either hand, adding even more finishing moves, the player will continue to be a grave threat around the basket. The talented player has very good athletic ability for size and age. ScoutsFocus would like to see continued development in speed/agility and vertical development. Jump rope drills are great full body conditioning drill we highly recommend if not ready for a rigorous weight-training program. The prospect is very strong for their age. The college game is an entirely different beast so continued strength development is crucial to prepare going against 23-24 year-olds. Combined with the player's solid frame that should to continue to build year around, the player will be physically ready to play at the nextlevel. The talent had an impressive motor (highly coveted skill by college coaches) that we believe will translate well at the next level. College coaches will be impressed watching the talented prospects motor and from what we saw, the player showed physical and mental toughness throughout camp. The player showed a great understanding and effort on the defensive side of the ball and should continue to focus on individual and team defensive concepts emphasized at camp. Koi has scholarship potential with continued hard work and development both in the classroom and on the hardwood. Can play the 1; 2. AAU Team: Marcus Denmon Elite.
