Personal Statement
My name is Marvin Jennings. I am a 6’3 and 1/2" small forward/guard at Surrattsville High School in Clinton, Maryland. At the age of three, I fell in love with basketball. I knew then it was my passion. I have always felt comfortable on the court. No other sport comes close to my heart. Basketball isn’t just about shooting the ball. It’s also about being a great team player and creating plays for your teammates creating plays for your teammates. I have been playing high school basketball, since the ninth grade on the JV team. I started playing varsity basketball as a sophomore. I was the youngest guy on the team and that taught me to work hard. Nothing would be given to me. I had to earn my starting position. I am always in control while on the court and stay relaxed no matter what is going on in the game. I am competitive but always showing good sportsmanship. As the captain of my varsity team, I show leadership to my teammates on and off the court. During the off season, I stay active by hitting the weights for resistance training, running and playing AAU basketball to keep my stamina up. I strive for greatness each and every day. Primarily, I play the small forward position. However, I am sometimes transitioned to the wing.
College is a goal to further my education. A goal I will accomplish. I would like to attend a school with a great atmosphere where I can make an impact. I will major in Criminal Justice. I hope to get the best education that is available. I study and work very hard to get the best grades that I can. Everyday on and off the court, it’s important to me to be the best me that I can be. I am dedicated to working hard to get the most out of my studies. I push myself to excel. I will be taking advanced classes next year to challenge myself to aim higher. Sky is the limit and I will continue to reach for the stars.
