Personal Statement

“Jason stepped on to the varsity level as if he was a veteran. He is a very clam and poised point guard.  He has a high basketball IQ that was on display all season long.” -Coach Khari Roulhac

As a sophomore being awarded the “All Scholastic” award for basketball, I was humbled in receiving this award and reading the words that my coach had to say about me.  Basketball has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.  My first experience with basketball was as a kindergartener at a basketball clinic. I  learned and grew as a basketball player through that clinic from kindergarten to fifth grade. From there I played on city leagues, AAU teams, middle school and high school teams.  I have spent many hours sharpening my skills through drills and practices with a private coach since the 5th grade.  I not only love to play basketball, I am a student of the game.  I pride myself on my work ethic. While some players have more natural talent than me,  I have worked  incredibly hard to become a competitive athlete.  This year I represented our team in the varsity All Star game and the three-point contest.  I was also honored to receive one of only two Coach’s Awards.  On the court, my coaches have described me as a confident point guard who leads the team with poise and good character. I am a self- motivated student always setting goals and striving to meet them. At Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical I am enrolled in advanced placement  and honors academic classes. I am also enrolled in the plumbing program where I intend to participate in the Cooperative Education program and earn my certificate in plumbing.   In the classroom, my teachers have described me as a natural leader and positive role model. I look forward to growing as a student athlete over the next two years, and using my experiences and growth to add value to a college academic and athletic program.
