Personal Statement
I am interested in a college that will provide me with a diverse education which will help translate into a successful career. I would like to attend a college where instructors have the opportunity to get to know students on personal level, versus large auditorium style classes. Smaller class sizes, group interaction, hands-on activities and educational experiences are important to me in a college experience.
I feel that I would make a good addition to a college basketball program. My coaches have always told me that I am "coachable" throughout my high school career. I ask questions, provide input and offer direction that will help our team be successful. I am a solid performer that gets the job done. In my current role as a center, I do the little things required to enable our team's success: boxing out opposing center, rebounds, disrupting plays, etc. I also play the power forward position and have an accurate mid-range shot.
My high school coach has always said it is a privilege to play varsity basketball and I agree with this statement 100 percent. Nothing should ever be handed to you. Success comes in the form of hard work, dedication and commitment, and I apply these principles in the classroom and on the basketball court.
Academics always comes first, as this will provide tools to help me begin a successful career. As a multi-sport athlete (I'm also a pitcher in baseball), it is important to me to do my best in the classroom. I work hard and pride myself on doing the best I can to reach my full potential.
I believe I am a person of good character. I do what's right, not only for myself, but to help others if needed. I volunteer after school in clubs (environment/recycling), as well as participating with our basketball team community outreach activities (food pantry and special needs school activities) and helping out with local recreation baseball and basketball camps (umpire and referee).
