My name is Joshua Bause. I am a senior at Franklin Road Christian and play under Coach Matt Mikel.
Like many others, I am deeply passionate about the game of basketball but what sets me apart is the path I’ve taken to get here. God works in mysterious ways. Due to a debilitating illness, I missed my entire freshman and half of my sophomore year of school, and therefore basketball. Every day I thought about getting back on the court with my teammates, contributing to the team again and that vision fueled my recovery. Thankfully, I recovered and returned to school and to my favorite sport in Dec. 2013, although I was very rusty. People did not think I would regain my strength to make a significant difference on my Varsity Basketball. Their doubt fueled me. I worked harder and never took my eye off of my goal . . . to play collegiate level basketball. Adversity reveals character. I know that this trial in my life forged me into a stronger person and deepened my faith. My coach and teammates must have recognized this too, as I was named team captain last season. Certainly, it has only increased my drive to get better, as evidenced by this past offseason during which I’ve been in the gym and weight room every day.
I have always played in the post, but recently I have been working on my foot speed and outside shot. I consider myself a good rebounder and post defender. My coach will tell you that I am very coachable and take instruction well. I have been going through a workout program to increase my vertical recently, along with regular weight training.
During my junior year, I also competed on my high school’s varsity football team, starting at linebacker, offensive line, and tight end. However, I decided to not pursue football my senior year as I have dedicated that time to working on my basketball skills instead.
I am looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically, but must fit academic needs also. I am a good student as shown by my 3.6 GPA and 28 on the ACT. I greatly value a good education, especially if it is combined with the chance to be part of college athletics. I believe I am more than ready to compete on a college level team, as shown by my character, work-ethic, coachability, and leadership skills. I am confident that I will make a difference on my future team!

Thank you,
Joshua Bause
