Personal Statement
I have two collegiate goals: 1) attend, do well, and graduate from a strong academic institution with a degree in Business/Sports Management/Journalism and 2) be an integral part of the college basketball team, contributing on both sides of the ball to help the team win.
I'm a good candidate for a college team.
- I'm a 6'9" (and still growing - .5" since June 2015), 195lb, small forward who can create my own shot, drive to the basket, and drain three's.
- I'm young for my grade - just turned 17 in July 2015.
- I'm an unselfish player - if the better play is a pass, I'm happy to get it to my teammate.
- I'm a motivated player - I always want to guard the opposing team's best player.
- And I'm dedicated. I spend my free-time at LifeTime Fitness, at my high school's gym, or in my driveway shooting. I watch self-training videos to learn more about footwork, shooting, dribbling, and jumping techniques.
But there's more to me than just basketball.
- I'm a hard-working, respectful person who knows the difference between right and wrong and has the fortitude to believe in myself and my values even if those values aren't considered popular.
- I'm a scholar-athlete dedicated to school (Honor Roll every semester, Gabriel Richard high honors three semesters, and National Honor Society member).
- I have never received a detention or suspension from Catholic Central (or my grade school) and have a clean police record.
- I don't drink, smoke, or "party" like a lot of kids my age.
- I'm active in community service, working my two high school basketball camps every year, helping out on the PB&J Ministry and during Kids Against Hunger packing missions, acting as my brother's Confirmation Sponsor, and volunteering as a National Honor Society student tutor. I am also organizing my own youth sports camp this summer for boys entering 8th grade.
