Personal Statement
I’ve been playing Basketball since 5 and playing for a college has always been a goal of mine. My mom made sure I was involved with sports early and basketball was the sport that I loved the most. I’ve played on several AAU teams and have gained valuable experience to step up my game. As a sophomore in High School, I played on the Junior Varsity team, was on the starting line- up, position as either point guard or shooting guard and averaged 15 points a game. I was named the team’s most valuable player and also during my sophomore season, I was pulled up to play on the varsity team for the playoffs.
During my junior year on the Varsity Team, my defense has proven to be valuable to the team. I also led the team in 3 point field goals. I’ve been known to help change the pace of the game either defensively or offensively. I’m very coachable and I’m not emotional with bad calls, I tend to move on quickly.
I would also say I have no problem taking a charge although my mom would rather I not. I think very strategically while on the court as well as with my school work and studies. Maintaining a B average throughout my High School Career. I have been on the honor roll every semester since freshman year. I have developed great study habits and I’m very serious and focused when it comes to my schoolwork. This spring and summer I am training with a personal trainer and skills coach 2-3 times a week to both get stronger and to add new skills to my game in preparation for my senior season. I also joined the track team to help my jumping and to gain quickness. I know that this has helped my game a lot and is paying off as my coaches say they can see the improvement in my game.
Overall, I would love to play college basketball and attend a great college to receive a good education and be part of a winning program both on and off the court. I’m not sure yet what I would like to major in but I would like a college that offers different career choices. Finally, I want to thank you for taking the time out to learn more about me as a student and an athlete.
