Personal Statement
Ever since I was five years old, I have dreamt of playing college basketball. I have been running to the local park or begging my parents to go to the local YMCA every day since I was in elementary school. From a very early age, I always watched basketball and analyzed the game. I have always been an ardent student of the game. In short, I have a deep seeded and long standing love for basketball.
The primary position I play is point guard. I am very much a pass first player. Steve Nash has been my role model for a long time. The court vision I have developed really helps me to be effective in transition, and I consistently find the open man. On defense, I love to work hard and make stops, I am quick, and play good team defense. I am a floor general, always looking to make the right play.
I go to the YMCA five times a week to hone my game. Over the years, my jump shot has developed further and further, largely as a result of long nights in the gym. Similarly, my ball handling skills have improved significantly as a result of drills I started practicing with my older brother four to five years ago. I am the hardest working player on our team and my coach can attest to that.Whatever college I ultimately attend, I promise I will be the first person in the gym and the last one to leave. I promise to bring my strong work ethic and love for the game.
As importantly, in the classroom, I strive to maintain a high grade point average (GPA). I work just as hard in the classroom as I do in the gym. My GPA in the last quarter was over 4.2.
I am listed at 6'0 and I expect a substantial growth spurt in the next one to two years (my brother who is 18 years old is 6 feet 4 inches tall and plays center). I work hard at basketball and, given the opportunity to do anything, my first choice would be to run back to that same park from all those years ago – and play basketball.
