Personal Statement
I am Collin Irby, a rising Sophomore at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC completing my first NCAA Division II season as a Shooting Guard. I have aspirations of continuing to play basketball at an NCAA Division I or II College or University level, and obtaining a degree in Business, Sports Management and Marketing. My ultimate goals are to become employed as a Professional Athlete, Basketball Agent or Recruiting Scout. I have been playing basketball since the age of 5 through various recreational, church organizations, tournament and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) teams since 2013. As a native of NC, basketball is in my blood! Basketball for me is like poetry in motion, and I love everything about the game! I play the game with intensity and integrity, constantly striving to improve my skills by being a student of the game. I was known on my high school team as "The Sixth Man", always willing to provide a spark to motivate my teammates to victory. I am willing to listen to my coaches, play the positions requested, and be effective at various positions by giving 100 percent each time a I step on the court. I enjoy the brotherhood, comradery, and the lessons basketball teaches on and off the court. I remain humble, realize my strengths, and I am willing to work to improve my weaknesses. I work as intensely on defense during games, as I do on offense. I am also willing to adjust my game or position per coaching suggestions to meet the needs of my team. I am committed to continuous growth and development of basketball skills by working out 1-2 times per week with a Position Coach.
