Personal Statement

Basketball is my passion. I began playing in a recreation league at the age of seven and never stopped. For me, it's not about playing video games and hanging out with friends in my spare time. It's about getting into the gym lifting weights and working on my skills to get bigger and better. I don't consider myself just a shooting guard, but an all-around team player. I can play defense to force the turnover, compete to get a rebound, drive to draw the foul and find the open man to get the best possible shot. Our varsity motto says it best, "We before me."

Academically there is still work to be done. I'm not as strong as I would like to be, but I always give 100%. I know the work in the classroom always takes priority over the work on the basketball court. I can't have one without the other. My goal is to play at the collegiate level and beyond. But an even bigger goal is to obtain my college degree because there is life after basketball.

Player Evaluation: Quick! Great defender, leads to steals and breakaways. Great job getting to the rim. Always on the attack. Great pull up jumper in the paint. Needs to finish better at the rim. Like to see a mid range jumper more when you can't get to the rim. Good rebounder, goes and gets the basketball. Nice shooter, hit several 3's. Use fakes on the perimeter, shot fake to create space to shoot, pass fake to clear defender and get it to open man.

Defenders have to show extra attention to shooters, which then enables you to drive to the basket easier. 2 Can hit the open 3 – You are consistent from behind the 3pt line 3 Good in the open floor – Handles the ball well in transition 4 Rebounding – Good job of going after the ball on the offensive glass 5 Finishes in the paint – Good at scoring the ball in traffic 6 Transitions well – Good job of running the floor and scoring the ball on the break  (Defense Main Strength) 1 Rebounding – Does a good job of going after the ball when a shot is taken 2 Active hands - Good at getting deflections and steals which turn in to easy baskets 3 Uses strength well – You do a good job of using your strength on defense without fouling
