Personal Statement

I am a complete all-round player who takes as much pride in my defense as my offense.  My skills are versatile enough to complement any style of play whether more transition or half-court oriented.  I have been playing basketball competitively since 2013 when I played for Carroll Middle School in Raleigh.  I have learned that to succeed in this game you have to continually work on your craft.  Not only have I improved my shot but I have worked to improve my ability to take it to the rim.  I pride myself on being able to shut down the opposition’s best shooters and I have successfully guarded and rebounded against bigger players.  I also use my basketball IQ to adjust to changing game situations and to help my teammates succeed on the court as well.  Through basketball I have learned to work hard to overcome obstacles.  After getting cut my freshman year at Sanderson, I became the JV team manager.  As the manager, I attended every practice and kept the stat books for every game.  After a lot of hard work and getting to know the players and coaches I was the only sophomore to make JV that was not on the team as a freshman.  By the end of my sophomore year I was in the starting line-up.  I am a Varsity Team Captain my senior year.

My current GPA is a 3.2, my ACT score is a 20 and my SAT score is a 1210.  I am enrolled in Sanderson High School’s Academy of Finance where I am taking Business and Marketing courses as well as Honors English, Math, Science and Social Studies.  I completed a 135-hour summer internship at Crossroads Fellowship Church in 2017.  I reported to the Chief Administrator,  worked in the thrift store and helped with special projects for other departments.   In addition to Finance I have an interest in Exercise Science.  I am interested in a career in athletics (teaching, training or coaching) after college.  I volunteered at the 2015 and 2016 Sanderson Spartan Basketball Summer Camps for 3rd through 8th Graders.  I enjoyed helping with the set-up, running drills, refereeing games and coaching teams.  I am looking for a program that will be a good fit for me both academically and athletically.  I believe I have the talent, desire, work-ethic and character to make a difference in your program.

  • Evaluation: "Opportunistic player. Gets up the court and runs, with this effort puts himself in position to make plays. Always seems to be around the ball. Great job running the floor for layups. Good shooter with range to 3. Made several 3 pointers. Good driver to the rim and deceptive finisher. Selective on your drives and have a plan. Don't force when not there. Big thing is knowing when to drive and when not. If defense has moved straight line drives to the rim. If not, pass the ball and cut or screen. Need to put on strength, get on a consistent weight program. "
