Personal Statement
Basketball is one of the most loved sports in not only America, but in the world. I have always took interest in the sport. Since I was two years old I have loved basketball. A basketball was the only thing that would have kept me calm happy, and smiling, besides my mother. I only started training for and practicing the game when I was around nine or ten years old. I knew none of the fundamentals about the game and my basketball iq was low, but under my first ever coach Carlton Screen and my father, I became smarter and better. I learned something new almost every time I stepped on a court. After about four years with coach Screen's teaching, i had developed into a well-rounded player for a 14 year old. At this point in my life to now, I knew that the game of basketball was for me. I am currently average guard height for college basketball, which is not at all bad for me because i have been told and believe myself that i have great guard skills and iq. I have a very solid ability to handle the basketball throughout any offensive tempo, and i am a very good extension of the coach on court. My ability to lead on and off the court also makes me a very good guard and teammate. I am more of an average defender. I take more pride in my defense than i do my offense because i know that if the game is played well on the defensive end off the floor, the momentum will transition into good offense. Though my on ball defense could still use some work, my off ball pressure defense is much better. I am able to deny an offensive player for most of a game, and i can get into the passing lanes extremely well. I do not gamble defensively often, i go for the guaranteed steals or blocks. I tend to stay out of foul trouble while playing very strong defense. I am very willing to improve way more defensively than offensively. In the classroom, i am almost the same person as on the court. A great leader and a very disciplined young man. I am currently on a borderline 80 average and i wish to break the 80 by the time i graduate. I am a very likable student because i tend to engage myself into what is being taught and i try to understand everything to the best of my abilities. A teacher and/or a staff member will never have a problem with me being disrespectful or a distractive influence towards others. I am more one of those students who keeps others on task. I believe that basketball is the path that i have been given and has chose for me to pursue and become successful. Basketball is my passion. It is what i want to be involved with the rest of my life!
