I am entering my junior year at John S. Burke Catholic high School. I will be graduating in 2018. I play the power forward position as well as center sometimes. Though we only have 439 students our program is so competitive that we play AA, the highest level in New York State.
I played travel soccer in elementary school where our team was repeatedly undefeated in the league. My soccer coach asked if I wanted to play on his CYO basketball team and that is when I fell in love with basketball. I played on two different AAU teams, Middletowns Finest and the BC Early Risers. Sixth grade was my first year playing in the parochial school league and we finished undefeated and winning the championship. Seventh and eighth grade ended with similar results. In eighth grade I was selected as league MVP and scholar athlete. In Ninth grade I made the varsity team and my hardwork and tenacity gave me the opportunity to start by the end of the season. My sophomore year I continued to improve and was listed as a breakout star in the league by the local newspaper.
Academically I am enrolled in Honors classes at Burke Catholic. I currently have a 4.0 GPA. I was selected to become a member of the National English Honor Society, am on the principles list and was invited to be inducted into the National Honor society. Besides playing basketball, I was a camp counselor for Burke at their summer basketball camp; I am a writer for the school newspaper and belong to the Father Michael Judge Society which performs charitable work within the community.
I believe that my enthusiasm, leadership skills and insatiable desire to improve would make me an asset to any college basketball program.
