Personal Statement

I am a 6'5" perimeter player that also plays well inside. My many strengths are my versatility, ball handling (left & right hand), shooting, quickness, aggressive defense, seeing the floor well and unselfish team play. I have always been a leader in assists, blocks, steals and making the plays that account for the overall team success. I currently weigh 180 lbs. but am a very young senior that expects to continue to grow more. Since sophomore year, I have increased my bench press by 80 lbs. My team plays Division I ball in the Columbus, Ohio, suburb of Hilliard, and we practice and play basketball year round. I have a 3.9 GPA and 27 ACT score. My math ACT score has been as high as a 32. I have played in my high school's basketball program all four years. (Update: Had to play out of position in the post my senior year due to my team's lack of post presence. Still had six games of double digit rebounds, along with points.) My JV team set the record for most wins in a season. During my junior year I got increasingly better to earn the award of "most improved" from my head coach Kevin Logsdon. He was careful to point out that the award given was not in any way indicative of my starting point in level of play. It was more to acknowledge the great improvement in my game and to indicate what a bright future that is yet to come from my play. In my first varsity start I scored 14 points and drew the assignment of guarding another area recruiting standout with letter of intent to Division I Dayton, 6'6" Ralph Hill, in which I did very well. It is the norm for me to draw the assignment of guarding a team's best and most productive player. This is due to my athleticism and aggressive defense, of which I love to play and take much pride in. After losing badly to OCC divisional foe Upper Arlington earlier in my junior season, I was chosen to guard their best player and recruiting standout, Sr. Kevin Sullivan. My team won 62 to 44. On the offensive side of the ball I am an excellent outside shooter with good left/right ball handling skills, am very quick, create mismatches, pass well and can go inside. I am an intelligent player, who rarely turns the ball over. I was a team captain and leader both last year and this year. Through my earlier basketball years I was always the younger and smaller player. Therefore, I developed my excellent ball handling skills both left and right, while learning all aspects of the entire game. I played AAU in sixth grade but did not continue in the program due to my commitment of playing at the highest level of USSSA travel baseball. However, I gave up baseball after sophomore year, even though I was very good at it and because I realized how much I love and enjoy playing basketball. My high school baseball coaches were disappointed in my decision and encouraged me to return, but I wanted to focus on basketball and my grades for college. It was an extremely hard decision for me. Looking back, I should have been playing AAU basketball all along. During my year of AAU basketball, I did an excellent job in guarding area standouts such as Nick Kellog and Kevin Gray. I have always been honored to play some of the best and loved the challenge in guarding them. I am looking forward to attending a college or university where I can find a good balance for me to excel both on an academic and athletic level. My preference would be to attend an institution in or around Ohio, or in Florida because my family is important to me. However, I am open outside my preference to finding the right fit for me in my academic area of study and to be able to play for a coaching staff that can make the team and me the best we can be. It is important for me to have that mutual respect between coach and player which makes the game fun, and to be able to compete with success. I prefer a medium to large size school which offers an outstanding academic reputation in the areas that I may want to study, such as architectural engineering, mechanical engineering or design, industrial engineering management, or business management and accounting. Thank you in advance to all the coaches who have taken the time to get to know a little more about me by reading this. Hopefully, your interest in me will still continue. I am confident that this season will be one of my best. If I ever do get the opportunity to play for you, I will not disappoint the coaching staff or your institution. Feel free to contact me or any of my coaches, and maybe you can get a chance to see me in action. Some of my best is not on my current video, and prior year(s)stats have been hard to get without possibly giving a bad impression to the team concept. Selected to Second Team All OCC Conference, Honorable Mention All Central District (Ohio), Selected/invited to play in OCC vs. City League game April 11, 2010, National Honor Society junior & senior year, High Academic Honor or Principal's Roll for every grading period, Freshman Focus Leader and basketball academic recognition & pin. Lead my high school team in scoring and defense. 2009-2010 Team MVP. Note: I played in a very patient/slow the game down to control tempo type offense at my high school. Am looking to play a more aggressive and up tempo, yet disciplined, style of play in the future. Sincerely, Eric Michael Anderson #12 or better known as "EA"
