Personal Statement
I wake up every morning with a checklist in my head. Attend my classes and strive academically - check. Attend basketball practice and develop chemistry with my teammates - check. Go home and perfect my basketball skills - check. Exercise good nutrition to fuel my body - check. I have both short term goals and long term goals, but the end result is the same for all of them. I want to become the most successful student athlete that I can be. My determination to be successful is influenced by two individuals, my father and my grandfather. My father has instilled in me the core values of hard work and self-respect. My grandfather taught me that through adversity comes triumph if you are strong enough to see things through to the end. There have been games when I score 20 points and my talent shines through, but there have also been games where I score 2 points and my skills seem off. No matter what type of game I have, I go back to my checklist. What do I need to do to get better? What is the best path to my goals? I have been described by others, coaches and teammates alike, as one of the most self-motivated and consistent athletes that they have encountered. Why? I have a strong drive within me to make my basketball goals become a reality at the high school level, and later at the college level and beyond.
