Personal Statement
When my grandfather passed away I wanted to pursue and excel in the sport he last watched me in, and that was basketball. So from that day on I have been working on my game to go to the next level. I first became interested in basketball when I played in a christian youth league when I was 6 years old. The reason I became so interested in the sport was because I loved when I saw the ball go through the net for the very first time. Basketball has taught me a lot in my life like leadership, passion, and perseverance. Basketball has taught me leadership because I play point guard, and point guard takes on a lot of responsibility. It has shown me passion because when I lost my first game I hated it and now all I do is compete in life at everything I do. Lastly it has shown me perseverance because I've had to accept things I can not control, and just keep pushing forward. Some of my academic goal in high school/college are to plan ahead for assignments and not procrastinate because it will help me with time management. Also another goal is to keep my GPA above 3.5 every nine weeks. Some obstacles that I've had to overcome in my life was learning at a young age that not everyone is going to be supportive. In fact some root against you and hope to see you fail. This is when I knew failure was not an option for me, and I would have to focus on myself. Some of my unique characteristics could be described as a genuine, kind-hearted young man. My parents have always told me I have an old soul. Some of the best skills I possess are being able to pass the ball right where my teammates want it, my poise on the floor, and I feel that I have a very high basketball IQ.
