Personal Statement
My Name is Ben Karbe, I am a 6’8 195 lbs. shooting guard/point guard currently living in Mainz Germany.
Important Update: “I will be in the US from December 22nd till January 14th for possible Workouts and School visits. Also I am planning public workouts in the Detroit area during this time.”
I am what you would typically call a “Coaches Kid”, because my uncle who was/is a big part of my upbringing is a semiprofessional basketball coach. I grew up in gyms as he would always take me to all his games and practices when I was young.
Since I was 14 years old, I always competed in the highest youth league in Germany (JBBL U16 & NBBL U19).
During these times I was nominated various times and participated in the summer program of our youth national teams.
Playing basketball motivated me also to spend one year as an exchange student with close friends of my family in Lancaster County. As a sophomore I led the Varsity Team of the Cocalico Highschool into the district playoffs (AAAAA) for the first time in almost a decade.
I am currently playing for the MTV Kronberg Basketball Club in the 1st Regionalliga Southwest. Which is part of the 3rd highest level of competition in Germany, in which we are currently leading in the standings.
So far in my young career I always played on the shooting guard position. But this year my coach provided me with the challenge to lead the team as a point guard
This current experience gives me the great opportunity to develop my game from being more of a shooter and scorer into a better overall leader and playmaker for others on the court. Despite the position I play on offense, I always love working hard on defense!!!
Instead of pursuing a full-time professional basketball career in Germany as next step in my development, I want to follow my dream of playing College Basketball in the United States.
I believe being a student athlete would give me the best opportunity to combine my interest in studying business as well as developing as a basketball player at a very level.
