Personal Statement

My collegiate goals and aspirations are as follows:

From an athletic standpoint, I strongly desire to play basketball at the collegiate level. Achieving this goal is something that drives me and affects every aspect of my life. From an educational standpoint, my current desire is to study criminal justice with a goal of finding employment in the law enforcement field. I would ultimately like to end up working in law enforcement at the federal level, perhaps something like the FBI. I have a desire to protect, help, and fight for people which is why I so strongly desire to be involved in law enforcement for my career.

There are several things that I believe separate me from other recruits, and may make me a good candidate for your team:

1. Character

I have been fortunate to have grown up in a good, stable environment my whole life, and have been taught very good principles throughout this time. My parents have been a good example to me and have had a very good influence on me. As a result, I have an excellent set of core personal convictions that guide my behavior: I have never smoked, drank, done drugs, or had any kind of sexual activity. I also have a strong work ethic, am very coachable, and take constructive criticism well. I understand the importance of having a "clean slate" and am committed to staying as far away from trouble as I can. I have also been raised to care about others and not just myself. This makes me a very likable person, a very good friend, and an excellent teammate.

2. Academics

My work ethic ties in with my academics in that I strive to get the best grades as I possibly can, and to do nothing less then what I am capable of. I have managed to keep an all A/B Honor Role status throughout all of high school thus far. My GPA has remained at a solid 3.7. Even in the midst of sports when it is hard to study, I keep my grades up. This has helped me to get Academic All-Conference Awards several times throughout my high school sports seasons.

3. Athletics

From an athletic standpoint, I believe that I could fit very well into most any system. I am a coachable and unselfish player who puts the success of the team above all else. I played Varsity my freshman year, and was able to contribute to winning the Conference Championship, and coming in 2nd place in the District Championship. My sophomore season I began training with former NBA player, and current Euro-League scoring leader and MVP Andy Panko. I have done (and continue to do) extensive training with him to prepare myself for college basketball. Additionally, I played AAU ball and have attended several camps and shootouts. The most recent camp was the Keystone State Invitational Camp held in Bloomsburg, PA. It is one of the premier camps in our state attended by over 100+ players.

This past camp was my best camp performance to date as I won the 2 on 2 championship, the 5 on 5 championship, and was the runner up for 3 on 3 champions. I also won the camps highest and most prestigious award: "The Most Outstanding Player Award.” This award is given to the athlete who has stood out to coaches the most over the week, not only in terms of performance, but also in terms of attitude, effort and teamwork. I was selected for this award by over 15 coaches, and was chosen over 100 other solid competitors.

I am currently approaching the middle of my junior season and I am currently averaging 23ppg, 10rpg, 3apg, 3spg, and 2bpg. In addition, I was selected to be on the First Team All-Tournament for this past Christmas tournament. I also have a shot at passing the coveted 1,000-point mark by the end of my Junior year.

My 5'11", 155-pound frame is getting bigger as I continue to lift weights and eat more. I have been meeting with a nutritionist who is helping me to fine-tune my diet and gain weight. I play regularly against opponents who are bigger and stronger than I am but have had continued success against them. The core skills I have learned through my personal training, along with my quickness and ability to play smart, have consistently allowed me to overcome any disadvantages I have on the floor due to height or weight.

In conclusion, I want to say thank you for taking the time view my profile me and to consider me as a possible recruit for your team. I don’t know where I stand skill wise in relation to all of the other players, but I can assure you of this: I am as committed as anyone, am willing to put forth whatever effort is necessary, and willing to make whatever sacrifice is needed, in order to play at the collegiate level.
