My name is Giangabriel Velez, I am an all-around 5’-9” point guard and shooting guard from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, currently at Saltsburg, Pennsylvania at The Kiski School. I’ve been an excellent three point shooter, while also having a great mid-range touch. I'm a lock-down defender, and a great off ball defender. As a “pass first” point guard, I can run the game at any pace, a quick pace, or a slower pace, adjusting to the game as it goes on. My height has not been a problem as I can shoot and score from anywhere, specially behind the 3pt line and with a quick first step allowing me to use a “runner” or finish strong with contact at the basket. Through my career, I've been part of championship teams, important games, clutch shots at the buzzer and many state tournaments. During the time, I was awarded with player of the week awards, MVP awards, and All-Tournament Teams. In the future I want sports to help me go through college, and to get a chance at being a professional player.
After Puerto Rico was struck by two devastating hurricanes, an opportunity (scholarship) to study in the states at The Kiski School came up, providing me with great education and a personal, professional and athletic growth. Ever since I arrived at Kiski, my discipline in school and sports has grown exponentially, creating much better habits of study, and a great work ethic, waking up early to practice / work-out every morning so I can improve my game. As a result, I am now leaner, faster and stronger than ever before.
By attending Kiski, I plan to follow my academic path into US colleges, study biology, continue on to Med School to become an orthopedist and be a successful and helping person in society. I have earned a 4.0 GPA in high school (Puerto Rico and Pennsylvania) with several honors. I am currently part of the National Honor Society. I have been on the honor roll all of my semesters since elementary school. My goal is to make an immediate impact in the classroom and on the court as a basketball player. I also plan to grow as a young man and make the best out of any opportunity I am given. I really would like to be given the chance to make my family proud. I am open to play anywhere or in any division. It has always been a dream of mine to play at the next level.
