Personal Statement
On my ever evolving list of collegiate goals, first and foremost will always be to graduate with a degree in marketing, preferably with a specialty in sports marketing. Academics has always been a priority and long ago I realized that athletics could be one of the key avenues towards guiding me to a successful academic career. With the bar that I have established for myself, I plan to transition my performance on the high school and AAU courts and in the classroom to the same level in college.
I feel I make a solid potential candidate for collegiate basketball teams due to a mixture of my level of skill and the way I handle myself on and off the court. My confidence is high. My character style is one of adaptability. This allow me to fit into any situation. When my teammates are tense, I relax. When the game requires some one to take control, I grab the reigns. I try to be the best team player I possibly can be, all the while knowing my teammates and coaches ultimately look towards me for leadership.
On my team now, I know my role is one of captain, but I understand it is a role that has to be earned. I take pride in the fact that I enjoy being flexible and coachable enough to be able to fit into any system and coaching style. On my high school team, I realize my role is to control the game with my shot making ability, but due to the shooting potential on my AAU team, my scoring ability is not a priority. The coaching style and chemistry of that team requires that I use my real time decision making skills and court vision to see plays develop and pass the ball to create the best potential chance for scoring, regardless if I am or am not the one shooting. On any team I become a part of, I will strive everyday for constant progression to be a key component through hard work, determination, and paying my dues.
