Since I was young, basketball has been my passion. I dreamed of playing in the NBA, as many kids do. Once I started playing in high school, my views of the game began to change. I realized that by playing basketball, I could potentially put myself through college.
I believe I would be a great candidate for a collegiate team first and foremost because I am not an academic risk. As a student athlete, my number one priority is to take care of my academics. I realized the importance of the education I receive in college preparing me for my career path. Basketball is a great tool to help me grow into my future.
Since I began playing on Whitesboro's varsity as a freshman, I have proven myself to be someone who stands out. I pride myself as being a motivator and an encourager to my teammates. I am also what I consider to be a "true point guard"; someone that can make plays happen and recognize opportunities to make my teammates better. I can score when I need to, but I know when to pass it to a teammate for the better shot. I am a leader on the floor with the ability to see and react to defenses and know where the weak spots are in the defense.
I often say to myself as motivation, "Why not me?" In every competition and every game there is a winner and there is the opportunity to improve. I know that I have trained, practiced, and put in the hours to be the best I can be. This attitude helps me remember that there is no reason I can't do anything I set my mind to. John Wooden says it best "It's the little things that are vital. Little things make big things happen." One block, one shot, one pass can make the difference between a win and a loss. It is my goal as a player to make the most of each second on the clock, to help ensure my team's victory.
