I've been playing basketball since I was about three years old. I didn't realize it was going to be my number one sport until I was eleven years old. I was never any good at basketball though I just knew I loved it. I was always told that I was too small and wouldn't be a basketball player. Going into my 6th grade year I practiced for hours every day through the rain, snow, and heat. I made the B team that year. Going into my 7th grade year I had high expectations but got cut from the A team and was disappointed. I used that as motivation and my 8th grade year I led my team in points and minutes. My team won the championship for the first time in seven years. Despite leading the team I didn't receive any votes for tournament MVP or All Tourney Team. After these setbacks that I faced I really learned about myself. I learned nothing is given and you have to work for it, and that's exactly the type of person I am. I learned I'm a hard worker who won't give up during tough times, and I can achieve greatness if I put my mind to it. That's exactly what I did! I go to a division 1 high school with over 1000 students. I made Jv as a Freshman and was the starting point guard. I was the only Sophomore to make the varsity team. I was the 6th man and by the end of the season I started. My Junior year I was the starting point guard and lead the team in scoring, free throw percentage and three pointers. Now going into my senior season I will be leading the team as captain with a good shot at becoming the schools all time leading three point shooter. None of these achievements would come without hard work, desire and a commitment to being better every day.
My academic goal for high school is to graduate with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. I definitely think its possible because I have made honor roll almost every quarter. My goals in college are similar. I want to continue my education at a high level while still playing the sport I love. I want to pursue an education in either Sports and Medicine or Radiology.
What makes me a good candidate for your team? I am a very hard working athlete and you will get 110% out of me every day. I can be a leader and very vocal when I need to. I care about the team before I care about myself, and I would rather win and score 0 points rather than score 30 points and lose. I care about my academics as much as I do basketball. This differentiates me from other recruits, especially the top recruits who will use there basketball skill to get into a good college not there academics. Also, while kids of greater talent stay the same I work on adding different elements of my game each off season to make me better in all aspects of my game.
