Personal Statement
I’m constantly reminded that my presence matters, and that my contribution to the family has everything to do with my academic success. College is supposed to be a memorable, fun time. It will be the last years before I start assuming my adult responsibilities, and attending college should help enhance my interest, goals, emotions, and values. Also I’m hoping that through attending, I will have the opportunity to meet people and establish meaningful relationships; set priorities and follow through with them; be allowed to make mistakes and learn from them; grow as a Christian; and be in position to one day make some money.
What will make me different from other recruits is the fact that I’ve been blessed to have 3 older brothers, all of which all were student athletes playing collegiate football (VMI), golf (Ferrum), and basketball (Eastern Mennonite). My father has coached basketball for over 25 years, and himself played at Longwood University and also during his military service years. As the younger sibling, I was unfortunate but fortunate to witness first hand all the hard work, training sessions, teaching moments, camps, video study sessions, and intense discussions about effort and work ethics.
I recognize the outstanding support system in place for me, and I’m excited about all the possibilities. I truly look forward to the total college experience, and being prepared for life afterward.
