Personal Statement
My grandfather was a great college basketball player and coach. He now coaches one of the top high school teams in North Carolina. He has been a great mentor and has given me wonderful advice concerning basketball. I respect him and have learned so much from all the knowledge he has shared with me and I am very motivated to play after I graduate from high school. I love and respect the game of basketball where the team's goals rise above individual play. I am an unselfish player, I can adapt quickly to different styles of play, and am eager to learn from my coaches. I am self-motivated and know free time is a great opportunity to improve my game. I am a great teammate and want to work with others to achieve a common goal.
I am active within my community volunteering at The Virginia Home, a facility catering to people who have sustained injuries and are bound in a wheelchairs permanently. This experience has strengthened my desire to help others and realize how fortunate I am. I also have a spiritual belief that is fulfilled within my church through acolyting and performing several tasks within the inner city of Richmond such as tutoring less fortunate children at St. Andrews School. In addition, I will be traveling on a mission trip in August to the Dominican Republic to help a poverty stricken community. I will work tirelessly to help a college program compete to win a championship.
