Personal Statement
My name is Tinga Adiang. I am from Jericho Vermont and I am interested in playing college basketball. Recently, I was recruited by Vermont Academy, a competitive prep school in the NEPSAC, and will reclassify as a junior this school year. Last year I played for my high school team, the Mount Mansfield Cougars as well as for Lone Wolf Elite, my AAU team. I am currently ranked 4th in the state of Vermont according to the New England Recruiting Report (www.newenglandrecruitingreport.com) I was born in Sudan and moved to the United States when I was 9 years old. I have overcome great obstacles to become a leader and a successful student athlete. I am a 6'3" guard on my teams. I am very tough on defense due to my length and quickness and offensively I am solid shooter and slasher. I was named defensive player of the year as a sophmore on my State Championship team and MVP as a junior. I was selected to All State and All Metro teams as a junior. I was chosen as an All Star this summer at Hoop Mountain and traveled out west with my AAU Lone Wolf Elite team. I was also selected as a member of Vermont's Athletic Leadership Council in 2013 and 2014. As a student, I have consistently earned my high school's academic honor roll. I currently have a 3.05 GPA. I have participated as a member of the student council and also have been involved with the Model UN program. I have also been a committed peer mentor in my school's Unified Sports Program, mentoring students with disabilities. I think my greatest strengths as a student and as an athlete are my character, determination and work ethic. I am committed to working hard at achieving my goals and do not leave anything to chance.
