Personal Statement
My name is Braden Ahlemeyer of Sammamish, WA, I currently play for Skyline High School and Eastside Basketball Club (“EBC”) out of Redmond, WA.
As a player I have a strong motor, and I get up and down the court well. I am explosive and athletic, and I play bigger than my 6’7”, 230 pound frame. I can shut down guys bigger than me, and I know how to use my length to my advantage. I know how to create space by setting good screens and boxing out. I have an 8’4” reach and a 30” vertical, and I consider myself one of the top rebounders in the state.
As a leader on the court I work to keep my teammates together in times of adversity by reminding them not to put blame on each other and stay positive. I try to set a good example by always being to practice on time and being ready to work hard. Off the court I initiate team activities to help build team chemistry because having good relationships with my teammates is very important to me.
My basketball goals for my senior year of high school are: 15 PPG, 12 RPG, to continue to solidify my outside shot, and lead our team to the state playoffs. If I have the privilege to play in college, I would like to play for a competitive school that values each player and their life skill development. My goals for college are to be an effective leader and starting player.
I work hard as a student, but due to my struggles with ADHD and associated anxiety, I have hard time academically. I have successfully taken advantage of my 504 accommodations and access to our Guided Studies programs which have helped me overcome my weaknesses academically, and I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish. Though I am undecided about what I will study in college, I have strong family values toward education passed down from my grandparents who were both university professors, and I am determined to earn a college degree.
In my social life I am a very personable and relational person. I get along well with most everyone, and I am well liked by my teachers and coaches. I have a variety of friendships both athletes and non-athletes. I am good with kids and enjoy working with them and helping them develop their sports skills. I have also enjoyed working with kids with disabilities as a TA in my school, and Sunday school at my church.
