School has always been a priority. Because my mom is a teacher, academics has always been an emphasis in our house. I have worked hard to maintain a solid grade point average but didn't really know what I wanted to do until my sophomore year. During my freshman year, I received an injury to my calf muscle and had to attend physical therapy sessions. Then, as a sophomore, I took a Sports Medicine class at school. I have found my passion and really want to become an athletic trainer, physical therapist or something health related. I want to help other athletes who sustain injuries. I would also love to help other athletes improve their skills and teach them life lessons through sports.
Sports have been an important part of my life since I was a toddler. I loved playing football and basketball. However, it became clear in middle school that basketball was my passion. I played competitive AAU basketball from 5th grade through 11th grade. My freshman year I was a starter on the JV team and my sophomore year I was a starter on the varsity squad. At first I was nervous to be on varsity because I didn't really know my teammates but very quickly they became my family. I am very competitive and I love to compete and win; however, sports are more than that to me. I believe in the aspect of TEAM before ME and always strive to put others before myself. That is one reason that I love to play point guard because I take pride in my family's success. I take pride in my own play but the success of my team is more important. As a junior, I became captain of the varsity team and I took that role very seriously. I organized team bonding activities and tried to lead by example. I am excited about my senior year. Last year, we made it to the district playoffs and lost in the loser out, winner to state game. Next year, we hope to make it.
My fondest memories of my various basketball teams are the time we have spent together bonding and having fun. I feel like I am an inspiration to my teammates because they know I always have their back on and off the court. It is my dream to play college ball. I may not have the stats that some other players have but I give 110% all the time, have the desire and attitude to improve, I am coachable, and most important, I am a good teammate.
When I put on my high school uniform, I take that role very seriously. I know that I am representing my team, my school, my family and my community. I know that I am a role model to younger kids when I am on the court. That is why I volunteer at our high school kids camps. It would be a privilege to be able to represent a college on the court. I would make sure to give back and be a positive influence on others. I heard in a motivational video once something that has always stuck with me.......if I could do one thing, just one thing, it would be to inspire. To inspire just one person. That is my goal.
