Personal Statement
I’m Jake Ryor, a Junior at Naperville Central High School in Naperville, IL. I am looking forward to continuing on my academic path at a top university, while diving at the collegiate level. I am a self-driven individual, who pushes myself to get the most out of whatever I do.
In high school, I was a three-sport athlete competing in football, diving, and gymnastics. My junior year I decided to focus specifically only on diving. I began diving my freshman year and immediately clicked with the sport. Since then I have gone to Purdue’s diving camp for a week, and last summer I attended the Longhorn Diving Camp at Texas for 2 weeks. Both camps gave insight to incredible coaching and good exposure to both 3m and tower. Since then I’ve joined the Windy City Diving team where I have learned a full two and half list on 3m. Being able to train and compete with many different coaches has been very beneficial with helping me develop from their separate perspectives. I truly enjoy being around many other divers, to help push myself to be a better and stronger diver. My new goal is to work on creating a tower list, as I would like to be able to train and compete tower in college.
As a part of the NCHS swim and dive team, I have been able to help out the team in many positive ways; by being a captain for the team, winning Sectionals, and being a state qualifier. I get the pleasure of helping be a part of the overall team, but also compete individually against others. Last year our team took 3rd place overall at state and this year, I helped our team take 2nd in state. This summer I helped coach a camp at my high school.
I am confident that my academic achievements and athletic drive will help me be a positive addition to your school and team.
