Personal Statement

My name is Cory Gillespie, I am a Sophomore at Letourneau University in Longview, Texas. I have wanted to play college golf ever since I was in elementary school. I want to attend college and play on the golf team for that school.  I feel that in todays world a college education is critical to success.  I would be a good candidate for any team based on my work ethic and my ability to get along with people. I see myself as a team player because I am going to do what ever it takes to get my team to win whether I am sitting on the side cheering for my team or I'm out on the course playing to win. I was named team captain for my high school's golf team in which we won two Regional Championships in a row as a team. For myself, I have made Varsity for my high school's golf team every year and I also made All District every year and All Conference every year except for my freshmen year. In my sophomore and junior years I have was in the top 5 scoring averages in my district. I have also made the CHSAA 4A State Championship every year and my best showing was 11th place finish in my junior year. What makes me different from others is my worth ethic for the love of what ever team I am on and for the love of the game. I am going to give 120% for both on the course and in the class room. I had an elbow surgery in 2015 which will took me two years to recover which is why I did not have a good senior season but I still had a consistent scoring average in the 70's and was able to break a high school record for making it to the CHSAA 4A State Championships for 4 years in a row and was able to finish in the 2nd team All Conference. I believe this recovery has made me a stronger person and I will not give up on giving everything 120% no matter what. I was able to win two scholarships from my high school because of my hard work and character on and off the course which is helping me pay for the junior college I went to. My first two semesters I attended at Letourneau University I had a 79 scoring average and currently I have a 73.7 scoring average. I also went to every tournament my 3rd semester at LeTournueau University which includes the conference championship where I went 76-74-67 to take 3rd place overall and help keep my team in the top 5 in the conference. I still would really like to transfer to play golf some where eventually and my G.P.A is 2.8 and I plan to major in Sports Management.

Thank you for your time.
