Personal Statement
My name is Carlo Pine, and currently I am a 16-year-old junior attending Telluride High School. My family lives in a small mountain town where we only have a four-month golf season. In spite of that, I have a strong game and play as much as I can. Earlier this fall I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes which sidelined me for several tournaments. Even though I am living with this disease I am still playing golf at my best and finishing within the top 10 every high school tournament, including a first place win in Cortez shooting a one under 71 for the opening tournament of high school golf. Also over the summer I competed in four different Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado two day tournaments. (For results click HERE)
I first began playing golf at three years old and have been playing competitively through high school matches for three years. My freshman year, I was the only member of my team to qualify for States and one of only three precocious freshman competing. In the end, I placed 44 out of 88 competitors. My success continued into my sophomore year when I placed among the top 10 in almost all my high school tournaments. Only one team member and I qualified for States, and last year I placed 22 out of 84 competitors. This year I qualified for states again, shooting a 75 and placing 6th, but I was not able to attend States. At this rate, winning the State Championship is in my sights for Senior year.
Over this last summer, I worked non-stop on my game, tremendously dropping my strokes and handicap. On my local course, my average score is around a 67, and I scored the course record, a 62, twice this past summer.
I am still deciding on what to pursue in college, but I am interested in engineering, golf management and environmental preservation. What I do know is I love golf and would like to play in college, for I am coachable, composed, and eager to play at any university that would accept me.
