Personal Statement
Hi, I'm Joshua Silverman. I am currently freshman at The Out of Door Academy in Sarasota, Florida and I am a student at Missing Link Golf Academy in Bradenton, Florida. As of April 4, 2014, I have 4.5 USGA handicap index.
I have played golf from the time I was six and it has been my obsession and passion for the past nine years. I have played lacrosse on and off for the past four years but I decided to make golf my sole sport and to start to train for collegiate level for competition in the future. Within the past year, I have dropped my handicap from an 11 to a 4.5, and my game is still rapidly improving. I have played in regional and some state tournaments for the past 5 years but in the summer of 2014, I will be playing in larger, statewide (and hopefully some national) tournaments.
I aspire to play college golf because golf is not just a game. Playing at such a high level requires integrity, determination, self-restraint, and will power. All these qualities, in my opinion, produce a valuable, productive member of society and of a college community. I have a plethora of goals that lead me and motivate me to perform at a high academic and athletic level.
I am not only a golfer; I am a successful student and a talented musician. I play seven instruments and have a 3.8 GPA at an academically challenging college preparatory school. Next year as a sophomore, I will be taking two AP classes and four honors classes. My schedule for next year consists of Mandarin III, Honors Algebra II, Honors Chemistry, AP Government, International Relations, Honors World Literature II, AP United States History, String Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble. Even though I have a large work load, golf and school comes before anything else.
