I will never forget my first round of golf in the fall of 8th grade. It was a little Par 3 with my dad, grandfather, uncle and cousin. I started out a little nervous and not too sure what to expect, but by hole 7, I had my first par. I remember thinking to myself how much I was enjoying the round. Unfortunately, that was the first and last round I got to play with my grandpa. He passed away unexpectedly the following spring and that hit me hard.
That summer I joined a junior golf league. By the end of the season, I took 3rd place in the league tournament. I practiced all fall and winter and made JV my freshman year. The next summer, I won the league tournament. I lived up at the range hitting balls, putting, and getting practice in. During my Sophomore year, I played both JV and Varsity and was the only Sophomore on the Varsity team. For JV, I took 2nd in one tournament and 3rd in another. My golf coach said that he had never had anyone improve from one year to the next as much as I had. By the end of the season, I was one of the top four players on the Varsity team and we made it to the State tournament. I will never forget standing on the first tee box when they announced my name and the feeling I got when I hit the first shot off the tee.
For this upcoming season, my goal is to make Varsity again, to be one of the top golfers in my school, and to go to State again, either individually or with the team. By the end of the summer, I want my tournament scores to drop from high 70’s to low 70’s, closer to even par. By my senior year, I want to be the best golfer in the school and to be shooting under par consistently. In college, I want to keep expanding my skills and to continue to make myself into a better player.
I’m really interested in business and I want to become an entrepreneur and own my own golfing business. So far, I have taken 2 business classes in high school and have really enjoyed them. So, in college I want to major in business. Golf is something I can play my whole life and I love the fact that if I can own my own golf company.NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the exclusive athletic recruiting network that educates, assists, and connects, families, coaches and companies so they can save time and money, get ahead and give back.
