My name is Skylar Carleton and I am currently in my Junior year at Brighton High School in Brighton, MI. I set my goal for this past year to become a more accomplished tournament player. I am looking for a highly competitive college program which will push me to my limits so I can become the most accomplished player I can possibly be. I am also looking for a challenging academic environment that will prepare me for the workforce upon graduation. I am committed to continue working these next four years on my education, golf game, and personnel development to prepare myself to excel as a Student Athlete at the highest level.
2016 Academic Achievement:
I am extremely humbled and proud having qualified and competed in the Michigan Regionals for DECA. I qualified for the State Championship as an individual in the category of Sports and Marketing. I was recognized as a State Champion and will compete in April at the ICDC 2016 Nashville competition.
2015 High School Update:
My Sophomore High School season went well as I finished being named to "All-Conference". Because of me being in the #1 spot of my team for the majority of the season, I got a chance to play in the same group as some very elite players. Due to High School golf being a spring sport in the State of Michigan, the conditions were almost always extremely challenging, helping me learn how to be resilient in tough situations. Some of my tournament scores include 76-73 at the Southern Swing Invitational, placing 14th out of 120 in an extremely accomplished field; shooting 77 at the Seaholm Invite at Orchard Lake Country Club; and a 77 at the Mona Shores Invitational at Muskegon CC, placing T13. I was very content with the lessons I learned and the confidence I gained playing in the conditions we faced.
2015 Summer Update:
My 2015 summer did not go as expected but I do not regret anything as I have learned so much throughout the experience. I made a grip change in the beginning of the summer, which was not one of my smartest decisions, but the change needed to be made regardless, sooner rather than later. These were the type of lessons that are only learned by being in the situation. I learned things in the mental aspect such as making every shot count, as well as not letting any shot type intimidate me. I also learned tons around the greens and improved drastically in regards to my short game. This summer I played against the toughest competition I ever have, and I am very thankful for that because learning from them was a blessing in itself. Some of the accomplishments I did have would be qualifying for the Michigan Junior Amateur, shooting a 75 and winning in a playoff for the last spot; shooting 72 in the AJGA Memorial Junior Qualifier, finishing in the top half of the field; shooting 75-77 at the Michigan Junior PGA Championship, which placed T16; and shooting 79-76 in the AJGA Preseason Junior at Ocala, finishing in the top half there as well. I am planning to make several changes over the winter and hope to come to spring playing better than ever.
