Personal Statement
Why is it that for years I have dreamed about playing golf on a college and professional level?
Well, I cannot simply answer this by saying I really and truly enjoy and love the game. I need to give you some background information about myself for you to understand why this is so important to me.
My path has been somewhat more challenging than most because I was born seventeen years ago, somewhat ahead of schedule as a two pound preemie. Yes, my early birth presented me and my parents with challenges, physically and academically. For many years I wore braces, had several surgeries, and underwent physical and occupational therapy. Because of my perseverance and support of my family, I have a strong appreciation and dedication for the valuable lessons I learned and to become a success.
I was exposed to the game of golf by my grandfather, a golf fanatic, at an early age. To this day he tells me that I was able to swing the golf club, at about six years old, with ease. Since then I have been exposed to playing golf on many courses throughout the country.
I want to continue my quest to become a better golfer and play on a college team. I know I can contribute as a team player as I have shown this as a varsity high school team player and also in several golf events.
I also consider myself to be somewhat a well rounded person. My extracurricular activities involve being a member of the church choir and the Kappa Leaguers, an auxiliary of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity developing future leaders. This had allowed me to raise monies to feed the needy at the Thanksgiving Drives, raise funds for scholarships by selling ads, giving gifts to the needy at Christmas. In addition, I have volunteered and contributed for activities like the Michigan Junior Special Olympics and helping junior golf leagues.
