Personal Statement
My name is Carter Tallaire and I am a senior at LaSalle High School in St. Ignace, Michigan. It is my primary goal to play golf and earn a degree at the collegiate level. Although I am from a small town in the Upper Peninsula, my father's job as a professional hockey player took us to many different cities in the United States and we also lived in Germany for 9 years. I attended school and played hockey there during my early grade school years and was able to travel with my parents and explore different areas in Germany, France and Italy. During these years, I developed a love of sports and discovered the importance of doing well in school. Living overseas helped me to learn to be adaptable to many different situations and locations.
Because my dad was off during the summers, he began taking me golfing at a very young age. Although we do not have a private club in our area, I spent many hours developing my golf game here on our public course. There was not much of an opportunity for me to play competitive golf at a young age, but as soon as I was able, I began competing in our Junior Club Championship, which I won twice. I have also been a member of our high school golf team since I was a freshman. Each year, I have helped our team to multiple wins including a state championship last season. I believe that golf is a game that you must work very hard at to succeed. I do this by participating in many aspects of the game. I have helped young golfers through the First Tee program, spent many hours with our golf coach and pro, viewed video of myself and others, and spent countless hours working on my golf skills through practice and play. It is my hope to continuously improve my game while being an asset to a college golf team.
In addition to golf, doing well in school is also very important to me. I have earned a grade point of 3.94. I have developed strong study habits that have helped me to maintain a high grade point average throughout high school. I am very proud of this because I am very busy playing football, hockey and golf during the school year. I have learned to balance playing sports and studying so that I do well in all areas and I hope to continue this throughout college.
