Golf is my passion and a sport I will play for the rest of my life, whether at a competitive level, or as an outing with my colleagues, family or friends. It’s a great privilege for me to be able to consider golf a ticket into the college of my dreams. I have been playing the game since my father introduced me to it when I was eight years old. I began attending golf camp and taking private lessons when I was twelve and from there my competiveness drove me to take my game to the next level. My golf ability and leadership skills in golf camp were recognized and I was a role model for my peers. I have continued that trend on the high school golf team by taking a leadership role there as well, helping my teammates and pushing myself to improve.
I have been working with a coach for three years and each year I have made significant improvement. My scores went from an average of 95 to 85 to 75 over the span of three golf seasons. The improvements have motivated me and make me confident that I am capable of much more. My ability to remain open to change my technique, to be willing to go outside of my comfort zone, and to recognize and address bad habits have been the keys to my steady improvement. If something does not feel right at first I always think back to the quote, “things will get worse before it gets better” and remember that change can be hard but that it is the only way I can become a better player.
My goal is to represent my college as a student athlete while receiving the best education and have the most fulfilling college experience possible. I aspire to study finance and accounting. In business, people work together towards a common goal of making a company more successful. This can be translated to the team aspect of competitive college golf where a team of players work together to make the team the best it can possibly be and succeed or “win.” I plan to use my golf skills along with my academic achievements to secure a role on a competitive golf team at a school with an excellent business program.
