Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Justin Griffith and I currently am a senior at Hampton High School in Pittsburgh, PA. I have been a member of the varsity golf team since my freshmen year. As a junior, I finished in second place in the Western Pennsylvania playoffs shooting a 73 at Oakmont Country Club. I held my first golf club when I was about two years old. While I played travel baseball and travel ice hockey as a youth, I found my passion was golf. I started playing competitively around the age of 12 and since then golf has played a huge role in my life. My goal is to continue to improve all aspects of my game to be able to play at the collegiate level. I work very hard at my game. I’m a member at Wildwood Country Club, just a few miles from where I live, and I spend as much time at the course as the Pittsburgh weather allows me. I also have a hitting net and a putting green in my basement, so there’s rarely a day that goes by that I’m not working on my game. I have a personal coach in Kevin Shields, head instructor at Nevillewood Country Club. He has been my swing coach for the past several years and has greatly improved my game as well as been a great mentor and a fine example of how to carry myself on and off the course. During the winter months, I practice at the Robert Morris University golf dome, where I can stay sharp and work on my game year round. My hard work ethic and passion for the game makes me a great candidate for a collegiate golf team.
