My name is Tyrus Cowan, but my family and friends call me Ty. I am a 5'11" , 150 lb senior at Cherokee High School in Rogersville which is a small town in East Tennessee. My lowest round in practice round of tournament play is 71. My lowest round 9 hole score is 33(-2), a school record. This broke my own school record 34(-1). My lowest 18 hole round in a AAJGT tournament is an 80 at River Island Golf Course. I have played golf for the past 4 years and was one of the top 2 players my Sophomore and Junior years. As my Senior golf year begins, my goal is to keep the number 1 position and as Captain, lead my team to State with a repeat win of both the Conference and Sectional Team Championships.
I am continuing to work daily on my golf game and have seen improvement each year as my score lowers. I am the oldest of four kids, 2 brothers and a sister, and sports have always been a big part of our family life. My experiences growing up playing travel baseball and basketball have made me a more disciplined athlete because I understand the importance of practice and being dedicated even when it gets tough. Being a varsity basketball starter for my high school and a leader of the golf team have taught me the importance of time management. I feel that I can take my strengths and contribute to a team and school in both athletics and academics. At this time I am undecided about a major but am considering Business. My goals are to work hard to improve my game each year at the college level, as well as keep a high GPA in my classes.
