Personal Statement

Hello, Coach. My name is Victor Ortega, and my desire is to play for your Men's Golf Team. I am a student-athlete at Christ Chapel Academy (VA), not an athlete-student. I believe in hard work, determination, and perseverance when it comes to academics, as well as in life. I currently have a 3.44 GPA with expectations to raise it well above a 3.5 this coming semester. I love my school, and I am very active in it. I am the Chaplain of our Student Government, as well as the Vice-President for our National Honors Society. I am a charter member for our school band, as well as a Big Brother, Big Sister mentoring program.

I believe I am a well-rounded golfer, and I am consistently improving in all areas. I have only been playing golf for three years but was still able to qualify and compete in the state tournament last year; I was also team captain.I won my first competitive tournament by four strokes shooting a 73, two-over, 18 hole round. I also won a par 3 Men's Club Championship, and had two, third-place finishes, one of which was my first two-day tournament.

  • I shot a 73-75 to shoot a 148 total to finish 2nd place at Laurell Hills, the home of the 2013 USGA Amateur Public Links. First day had wind gust close to 20mph. I was in the final pairing and only cam two strokes away from winning.
