I started playing golf the summer of my 8th grade year, and I committed myself to becoming good enough to make the high school varsity team with aspirations of playing in college. I knew I was going to have to practice consistently on my swing and short game, especially since I would be competing against kids who had mostly likely been playing a lot longer than I. However, I really believe that you can accomplish anything if you are focused.
My grades are a reflection of the time I spend on my studies, and it has helped me develop a positive mind-set with my golf. As every practice moves me closer to my goal, it also helps me learn something about myself. I know it’s teaching me that dedication to a singular focus does pay off. After setting a goal in 2016 of qualifying for the VHSL State Championship, I achieved that this year by winning a 3-man playoff at Conference and shooting 2-over par at Regionals to grab an individual qualifying spot. Meeting that goal was just the beginning and I know that I will continue to grow as a golfer.
I am a dedicated, thoughtful teammate and student, and am looking forward to finding the college where I can use my education and talent to contribute to winning championships and earn my degree so I can build a purposeful career.
